Experience a unique musical meeting point where jazz and South Indian classical tradition come together. EYM Trio join renowned vocalist and flautist Varijashree for the UK debut of their collaborative album, blending the improvisational freedom of jazz with the intricate beauty of Carnatic music.
EYM Trio are known for travelling widely and absorbing musical influences from around the world, bringing them into an ever-evolving creative dialogue. Varijashree’s journey mirrors that openness: trained in Carnatic music from early childhood—before she could even walk—she later developed a deep passion for Western music and jazz. As the musicians describe it, “That’s the kind of collaboration we’re all looking for in our lives as musicians.”
The result is an album that sits at the crossroads of two rich traditions. Jazz harmonies and improvisation intertwine with the rhythmic and melodic complexity of Carnatic music, creating a sound that gently blurs the boundaries between cultures. Like a Kapla structure, the trio’s compositions are taken apart and rebuilt in new ways, allowing each performance to evolve organically.
