Iconic saxophone player Denys Baptiste is a keystone in the British jazz scene and a hero to the younger generation of London nu jazz players. He will appear at Ladbroke Hall with his all-star quartet playing some originals as well as well-known jazz classics.

Bio

Mercury & MOBO award-winning saxophonist/composer Denys Baptiste was born in London of St Lucian parents. Denys has had an exceptional career at the forefront of the UK scene, performing/recording with international stars including McCoy Tyner, Hugh Masekela, Bheki Mseleku, Django Bates, Courtney Pine & Billy Higgins. Described by Time Magazine as “The icon of British Jazz”, his colossal musicality – based on a powerful technique and a facility to improvise fluently and effortlessly across a wide range of musical styles – is matched only by his unfettered energy which takes him and his audiences into the musical stratosphere. An evening with Denys guarantees a display of unsuppressed expression, ranging from the soulful to breath taking, edge-of-your-seat virtuosity.

The Band

Nikki Yeoh (Piano/keyboard) is one of the most imaginative musicians in the UK she has toured with Courtney Pine, Cleveland Watkiss, Steve. Williamson, Chante Moore, The Roots and Neneh Cherry. Her Infinitum band continues to push the boundaries of the trio format.

Larry Bartley (Bass) is one of the hardest working bass players in country has toured with Abdullah Ibrahim, Courtney Pine, Tony Kofi.

Rod Youngs (Drums) is a native of Washington DC his expressive style has led to work with artists including Gil Scott-Heron, Lee Konitz, Courtney Pine, Jon Hendricks, Hugh Masekela, Carleen Anderson, Craig Handy, Natalie Cole, Bennie Maupin, Mica Paris, Abdullah Ibrahim, Juliet Robert, Ronnie Laws, Jocelyn Brown, Robin Eubanks, Jazz Jamaica All Stars, and David Murray
