The Clélya Abraham Quartet plunges us into a poetic, mixed world, at the crossroads of modern jazz, classical and Afro-Caribbean music.
Classically trained in violin and piano, Clélya turned to jazz at the age of sixteen to rediscover her father’s Caribbean roots. Her debut album, released on February 4, 2022 to critical acclaim: “a great talent we’ll be following closely” Jazz News; “revelation artist” Jazz Mag; airplay on TSF Jazz and Fip radio stations. Her album release concert at the Studio de l’Ermitage (Paris), warmly received by the public, was the subject of a report on the France Ô television channel (French).
In 2023, she was invited by the Jazz à Vienne festival to take up a creative residency in São Paulo, where she immersed herself in the musical culture and reconnected, like a “madeleine de Proust”, with the music she grew up with.
Following this Brazilian experience, she felt the need to evolve her quartet, Kevin Lazakis joined her on guitar and she composed a new album influenced by starry nights and Brazilian music, with guest Lionel Louecke.
