Leggiamo: Italian Words and Wine

Join us in the Library for an intimate evening of Italian literature and wine. Our host, writer and curator Adam Zmith, will be joined by writers Olga Campofreda and Piero Toto for a conversation about the Italian authors who shaped them and the ones exciting them now.

Our starting point is Pier Vittorio Tondelli, the restless, boundary-pushing voice of 1980s Italy, whose novels captured a generation of young people on the move and wrote openly about desire and queer lives. From there, our conversation will open out to other Italian writers, living and dead, who deserve a wider audience in Britain.

Olga and Piero will also talk about their own writing practice and what it means to create between Italy and London. They’ll also read from their work, including poetry from Piero.

Between conversations, a sommelier will introduce us to two Italian wines for tasting. The evening is designed to feel like a gathering of friends rather than a lecture, so there’s time to mingle, enjoy our wine, and meet the speakers.

Each sitting is limited to 15 guests and lasts one hour.
