Learn the art of stand-up with award-winning actress Juliet Cowan — beginner’s course in comedy writing and live performance, ending with your debut show at Ladbroke Hall.

Juliet Cowan is known for her standout roles in Skins, Fresh Meat, The Power, Pulling, Back to Life, and This Life. In 2024 alone, she appeared in Spent, Brassic, Big Boys, and What It Feels Like To Be a Girl, and starred in three feature films: Back to Black (as Janis Winehouse), Members Club, and Falling Into Place. She will next appear in Lady and Jay Kelly alongside George Clooney and Adam Sandler.

Juliet began her career in stand-up comedy, winning So You Think You’re Funny ahead of Jimmy Carr and Russell Howard. She went on to found the London comedy club A Cheeky Night In, and has performed sold-out solo shows at The Zedel, The Bush Theatre, and The Vault Festival.

This six-week course will only take in 15 students and will take place in one of Ladbroke Hall’s private spaces – either the Private Bar, Library or Prouvé House. It will take students through the full process of writing and performing a five-minute stand-up set. The first two weeks focus on generating material through observation and personal experience, followed by sessions on shaping, pitching, and refining the material with feedback and collaboration. The final week prepares students for a live performance at Ladbroke Hall on Tuesday 4th November.
