Carpenters Workshop Gallery has partnered with Ladbroke Hall for an evening with Kayo Saito and Ute Decker, in conversation with Melanie Grant.
The event explores themes of freedom and fear and how these elements affect the design language and thoughts of Ute Decker and Kayo Saito.
Ute Decker is best known for her minimalist yet powerful sculptural jewellery art. Born in Germany in 1969, Decker grew up in a family of winemakers, surrounded by nature and working closely with it. Her childhood observations of humanity’s interaction with the natural environment developed into a life-long meditation on the subject.
Kayo Saito is influenced by nature. Fragility, poetry, organic forms and the energy of plants arouse her creativity and fulfil her aesthetic sense. Through carefully chosen materials and designs, Saito creates unusually delicate and sculptural forms in the shape of precious jewellery.
Melanie Grant is a British journalist, editor, curator and commentator specialising in jewellery, luxury, sustainability and the cross‐over between art and adornment. With over 20 years’ experience in journalism, she has curated numerous exhibitions and spoken at major international institutions. Her new book The Jewelery Book, published by Phaidon, is available now.
