Join us for an evening dedicated to the life and work of pioneering Irish architect and designer Eileen Gray. Through two films and a Q&A, we’ll explore her influential role in shaping modernist design.

The first film – E.1027: Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea – is a docu‑fiction blending dramatisation, archival footage, and Gray’s own reflections. It focuses on the modernist villa Gray designed on the French Riviera and the fraught relationship with Le Corbusier, whose murals obscured her authorship of the iconic villa.

The second film, In Conversation with Eileen Gray, is a 2020 short film based on a previously unreleased 1973 interview led by Andrew Hodgkinson. It offers a rare, unguarded glimpse into her reflections on design, legacy, and how her work was beginning to be appreciated.

Q&A Session
After the screenings, there will be a Q&A with Philippe Garner, and Graeme Brooker, offering deeper insight into Eileen Gray’s lasting influence. The Q&A will be featuring:

  • Philippe Garner, a leading scholar and collector of 20th-century design, instrumental in spotlighting Gray’s legacy.
  • Graeme Brooker, Head of Interior Design MA at the Royal College of Art.

Join us to discover Eileen Gray’s work and the human stories behind her legacy.
