Elif Shafak is a renowned British-Turkish novelist, with 21 published books throughout her career. She’ll join us on 17th December to discuss her latest Top Five Sunday Times Bestseller, There are Rivers in the Sky.

‘This is the story of one lost poem, two great rivers, and three remarkable lives – all connected by a single drop of water. In the ruins of Nineveh, that ancient city of Mesopotamia, there lies hidden in the sand fragments of a long-forgotten poem, the Epic of Gilgamesh.’ Join us for an evening full of dazzling stories and words of wisdom from a truly great writer.

Elif Shafak’s award-nominated titles include The Island of Missing Trees and 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in this Strange World. An advocate for women’s and LGBTQ+ rights, she holds a PhD in political science and has taught at prestigious universities, including Oxford, while also contributing to major publications worldwide. Shafak has received numerous accolades, including the Halldór Laxness International Literature Prize and the British Academy President’s Medal, recognising her significant impact on storytelling and literature.

Held in partnership with The Trouble Club, a women-led organisation running a rich programme of talks, dinners, networking and coaching events, and cultural outings. Their mission is to get great women speakers on stage and to build bonds across the group, both personally and professionally.
