Join us at Ladbroke Hall for a special performance as Tereza Catarov brings Koren to life on stage. A Romanian-born, London-based singer, pianist and composer, Tereza blends contemporary jazz with the rich folk traditions of the Balkans and Eastern Europe, creating a deeply expressive sound that bridges cultural memory and modern improvisation. Her music is renowned for its cinematic harmonies, rhythmic complexity and stirring emotional depth — perfect for fans of live jazz and world-inspired music.

From a young age, Tereza was immersed in music: she began singing at folk festivals at the age of three and studied classical piano from the age of five. Growing up in a multicultural environment in western Romania, she absorbed the melodic contours of Romanian doinas, the hypnotic asymmetry of Bulgarian rhythms, and the communal storytelling spirit embedded in village song. These early influences would later become the foundation of her artistic identity.

Her debut album, Koren, released in 2025, draws on the stories of the women in her childhood community—particularly her grandmothers and the elder women who preserved songs, language and cultural memory. Sung in part in the endangered Paulician dialect, the album weaves fragments of family history with contemporary jazz aesthetics. Critics praised Koren for its emotional depth and striking originality, earning four-star reviews in both Jazzwise and Songlinesmagazine, as well as airplay on radio.
