Nguyên Lê’s Saiyuki Trio: A Musical Journey Beyond Borders
Experience an evening where East Asia meets the West in a captivating fusion of sound. The Saiyuki trio, led by the renowned Parisian guitarist Nguyên Lê, brings together the enchanting koto of Mieko Miyazaki and the masterful tablas of Prabhu Edouard. Together, they create a sonic landscape where the virtuosity of each musician transcends cultural boundaries, crafting an “Asia without borders.”

Nguyên Lê, celebrated for his unparalleled ability to explore and blend diverse musical traditions, continues to astonish with his latest release, Saiyuki. His music is a journey—one that moves fluidly from East to West and back again, embodying the essence of cultural exchange. Lê’s guitar work, described as unlike any other, serves as the backbone of this trio, guiding the audience through a rich tapestry of sounds and influences.

The title Saiyuki is inspired by the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West, a fitting metaphor for this trio’s exploration of the musical Soad. Vietnam, India, and Japan—homelands of the trio’s members—form the corners of a magical triangle where their unique traditions converge, resulting in a dazzling fusion that is both ancient and entirely new.

Join us at Ladbroke Hall for this extraordinary musical voyage.
