Brazilian-born pianist Leonardo Montana, a leading voice in the Paris jazz scene, brings his vibrant, cross-cultural sound to Ladbroke Hall for a special quartet performance.
Renowned for his work alongside major international artists including Dave Liebman, Chico Freeman, JD Allen, David Linx and Omara Portuondo, Montana has developed a deeply expressive and personal musical language. Alongside his acclaimed collaborations, he has released three recordings as a leader: A Flor da Pele (2022), Joruri (2023), and LéNo(2024), the latter a duo project with drummer Arnaud Dolmen.
For this concert, Montana is joined by celebrated Brazilian trumpeter and composer Rubinho Antunes, a prominent figure of the São Paulo jazz scene now based in Europe. Antunes is known for blending rich Brazilian traditions with a contemporary jazz sensibility. His career has included performances with the São Paulo State Jazz Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of USP (Ribeirão Preto), and the Chamber Orchestra of Lyon, as well as collaborations with leading artists such as Rosa Passos, Marcos Valle, Maria Schneider and Johnny Alf.
Completing the quartet are two outstanding Paris-based musicians: bassist Etienne Renard and drummer Donald Kontomanou.
Together, the quartet will perform original compositions inspired by the colour and creativity of Brazilian landscapes, alongside inventive arrangements from the Brazilian jazz repertoire — an evening of rhythm, lyricism and dynamic interplay not to be missed.
