The UK welcomes Finnish guitarist Jonas Metsäkylä for a rare one-off concert, leading his international quartet. Now based in Paris, Metsäkylä is a celebrated jazz musician known for his hard-swinging style and compositions inspired by Wes Montgomery and the high-energy Blue Note era. Expect music full of fire, groove, and melodic clarity.
Joining him on drums is Steve Brown, one of the most respected figures in UK jazz. A first-call drummer for visiting international artists, Steve is a long-standing member of the Scott Hamilton Quartet and previously held the drum chair in the Barry Harris Trio. His playing is deeply swinging, musical, and a masterclass in jazz drumming.
On tenor saxophone is Fraser Smith, one of the UK’s most exciting saxophonists. His recordings have amassed over 1.3 million streams, with his latest album named in both The Times and Jazzwise Jazz Albums of the Year lists, earning four-star reviews from each. John Fordham of Jazz News describes him as “nonchalantly confident and very hard swinging.”
