“Mr. Sabbagh played with untroubled self-assurance… working toward a sincerely personal vocabulary.”
— The New York Times
Ladbroke Hall, welcomes the Jerome Sabbagh Quartet for a special jazz night featuring one of the most distinctive melodic voices to emerge from the New York jazz scene.
A Paris-born saxophonist and composer who has lived in New York since 1995, Jerome Sabbagh is a prolific, forward-thinking artist deeply rooted in the jazz tradition. His music is driven by an unwavering attachment to melody, a refined sense of lyricism, and a commitment to creating space for the unexpected. Praised by The New York Times for his “sleek and sturdy appeal,” Sabbagh has steadily developed a sincerely personal musical language, free of imitation and rich in character.
Now celebrating 20 years as a working ensemble, the Jerome Sabbagh Quartet stands as a rare example of longevity and artistic cohesion in contemporary jazz. Over two decades, the band has forged a distinctive collective identity shaped by trust, listening, and the exceptional calibre of its musicians. Sabbagh was one of Paul Motian’s last saxophonists, performing with Motian’s New Trio at the Village Vanguard, and has recorded twelve albums as a leader with collaborators including Kenny Barron, Al Foster, Ben Street, Rodney Green, Daniel Humair, and Jonathan Blake.
The quartet brings together an extraordinary lineup. Guitarist Ben Monder, renowned for his expansive harmonic imagination, has worked with Maria Schneider, Lee Konitz, David Bowie, and is a full-time member of The Bad Plus. Bassist Joe Martin is widely admired for his clarity and musical intuition, with credits including Mark Turner, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Chris Potter, and Al Foster. Drummer Nasheet Waits, one of the most compelling voices in modern jazz rhythm, anchors the group with an organic feel rooted in tradition, explosive energy, and deep responsiveness.
This performance highlights music from the quartet’s latest album, Stand Up!, released on Analog Tone Factory, the analog-only label founded by Sabbagh and Pete Rende. Recorded directly to tape, the album has earned a strong following among audiophiles and vinyl collectors, and was selected by Bill Milkowski as one of the ten best jazz records of 2025 in The Absolute Sound.
Set within the intimate and acoustically rich surroundings of Ladbroke Hall in Notting Hill, this jazz night offers a rare opportunity to experience a world-class quartet whose music is at once deeply personal, adventurous, and grounded in the living tradition of jazz.
