Carpenters Workshop Gallery presents Lightness of Form, an exhibition by British designer Terence Woodgate. Created in close collaboration with John Barnard, best known in Formula 1 for developing the first carbon fibre racing car, this series explores what happens when cutting-edge materials are applied not to speed, but to everyday objects.

Instead of highlighting technology for its own sake, the exhibition focuses on finding balance: between form and function, movement and stillness, design and engineering. The result is furniture that feels as good to use as it looks.

Guided by a minimalist philosophy, Woodgate’s work draws inspiration from artists and architects like Donald Judd, Eduardo Chillida, Tadao Ando, and Luis Barragán.

Terence Woodgate was named a Royal Designer for Industry in 2003, with pieces held in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and Museu d’Arts Decoratives, Barcelona. John Barnard’s influence on Formula 1 design is longstanding, and his work is also included in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
